Matthew 14
The witness, life and testimony of Peter is absolutely fascinating to me. Mostly because it is very easy to relate to. While Paul was red hot against Christ then white hot for Him, Peters journey was more up and down, roller coastery, until finally becoming white hot for the Lord.
In Matthew 14 we find a very familiar story. The disciples are in a boat while Jesus is on shore praying. After some time alone, He goes out to meet His followers by walking on to of the water. Pretty sure that I would be freaking out just like they did. But Christ calms them saying "Do not be afraid. It is I." Peter then responds, “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”"Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”Isn't it interesting that while Peter is sinking, he cries out for help. But who does he ask? Not "Jesus" or "Teacher" or "Rabbi" or "Brother" or "Friend" but "LORD." Even in the midst of his doubt he acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God. It can be a simple task to acknowledge with our mouth and mind that Jesus is Lord. But getting it down in your heart so that there is ZERO doubt so that in every situation we are confident that we will be protected, guided, loved and kept afloat is a really really daunting task.I love the Lord with all of my mind; but sometimes I wonder how fast I would sink.
