Job 8:5-6
But if you will seek God earnestly
and plead with the Almighty,
if you are pure and upright,
even now he will rouse himself on your behalf
and restore you to your prosperous state.
If you are pure and upright? IF??? It's great advise from his friend but how can that work? Doesn't the Bible say that that is an impossibility? Solomon tells us that in fact there has not ever been a man that is righteous and never sins. So how in the world can we be restored to God? To our prosperous state? Jehovah Jirah always provides.
First, why do we need a Savior? When God gave the Law to Moses it did not contain only the 10 Commandments. There were actually 613 commandments. They are not given in an effort to get us to follow the law perfectly; it is not possible for humans to keep the law perfectly. They were given so that no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin. If it were possible keep them all we would be righteous in the sight of God. But James says that breaking even one part of the law will make us guilty of breaking the whole law. So, the writing down of the Law makes us aware of just how badly we have fallen from the perfect relationship with God that He created. It acts to teach us how much we need Jesus. The Law then, reveals our sin but is completely powerless to remove it. It shows righteousness but can't produce it.
With that being true, how, exactly does God restore us? How do we appear pure and upright in the sight of God? It is only by the grace of God and through the imputed righteousness of Christ that we can be declared righteous. His death on the cross paid the penalty, justifies us from sin and declares us righteous before God’s eyes. The death of Christ does more than to just cover our sins, they are actually removed from us. It is not that the price was paid, but that we are as clean as snow. Our record has been expunged.
Because of the love of God, through Christ, we are able to stand before the Judge of the Universe and plead innocent. Because we are. It is only because of this gift that we are we can be restored to what God has planned for you!
