Psalms 6-8
In the sixth Psalm, David describes how he is suffering after his adultery with Bathsheba. Their child was near death soon after birth. During the short while after the birth David begs forgiveness and restoration so as to not allow his child to die.
It is fascinating that David is placing the blame for his child’s poor health on himself. This shows what was commonplace in the Jewish community in his time. It sin and its consequences are able to be covered up but never removed. David begs forgiveness and promises repentance. Haven’t we all had that exact same prayer? “I am so sorry God, I know that I was wrong and it won’t happen again. Just get me out of this jam that I put myself in.”
In many cases He does just that. But other times, we are allowing to suffer the penalty from our actions. He never puts those issues in our way but He certainly allows us to walk through them. But why? Sometimes, the struggles in our lives are needed to develop us into the sons and daughters He knows we can be. He loves us so much, that He will do whatever He can do to removed obstacles from our develop. Even if the thing that gets in our way is us.
