Genesis 1 -3
When Adam and Eve ate of the fruit God told them not to, how far did they fall? Are we still falling? Reading the account of what happened in that garden that day we are given those answers.
It's fascenating that some of the very first words of the Bible are the things that Satan manipulates. They are some very basic truths. God tells Adam that if they eat the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil they will die. What happened when they ate of it? NOTHING! Did their hearts stop? No. Did their lungs fill with fluid or their kidneys fail? No! Nothing happened at all! The serpent knew that would be the case so he spoke that half truth to Eve. "You will not surely die." Up until this very day and until the end of time the devil loves half truths, omissions, word games and manipulation. Did they physically die? No. But they allowed entrance to all things evil. Deception, pride, shame, punishment, disease and yes, eventually death. Even then, in Eden, God had to kill an animal to create clothing to cover the nakedness of Adam and Eve. Right from the beginning God has given us a way to cover, atone and eventually wash away our sins.
We need to be thankful for that, because without it, who knows how far we could fall.
