Job 1 - 2
I've always had a hard time choking down the story of Job. I don't like the idea that life can just turn around at any moment without an apparent reason. I want to live in a world in which hard work, dedication, persistence and determination result in success. Job's account however, shows a very different world than that. It shows how important and powerful spiritual warfare can be. The richest, most successful man on the planet, did nothing wrong but had the hedge of protection removed from his life. Satan was given free reign to do what he pleased without physical harm.
We'll dig deep into the processes that Satan used in Job's life to attack and the various ways that Job defended himself. But in this passage, what we see is the basis of good and evil in the universe that is too often forgotten. God gives us only good things. He may allow bad things to happen to us but never does he cause them. Satan, the devil, our adversary is the author and provider of all pain, sickness, disease and misfortune.
Nothing more, nothing less. God good, devil bad.
