Well, 2012 is here. The Earth still seems to be here. There aren't any new wars that spontaneously broke out. I know, there is a long ways from now until December 21 so the Mayans could still have it right. There is just one thing that bugs me about the whole thing. There are still MANY things that have to happen before the end! Scripture tells us there will be a third temple built along with so many other things that it's silly to even think about them all let alone list them. But for now, let's just assume that when Christ tells us that we will not know when He is coming back, He is actually telling the truth. That we won't know when until He is here to celebrate with His bride.
What are we to do until then? You may do as you wish, but I'll spend this year getting closer to God. Learning Him, yearning Him. Daily readings, daily writings. Want to join me? Here's the schedule!! Today's reading is Romans 1&2 and it is fascinating. Paul is writing to the church in Rome to prepare them for his visit. But he may as well be speaking to the church down the road or the one that ma and pa go to or that crazy one that's on the news or the one that you go to.
Paul talks about the sin of man in comparison with the glory of God. We know God and His desires and His 'invisible qualities.' His Eternal Power and Divine Nature are constantly on display. We should continually be aware of them and worship Him because of it. But, what happens in that society so long ago is very similar to what happens still today. We choose the wrong thing to worship. Paul speaks of people worshiping the creation instead of the Creator. Tell me, when you look at a sculpture, do you marvel at the clay or at how beautifully the artist formed it? How much more should we look at the Creator and His creation that way?
In Deuteronomy, when Moses is given the Law by God, we are given the choice. We may choose life and blessing or death and cursing. 800 years after that Paul gives us more details about what that choice results in. Life and blessing results in a life that has the fruit of the Spirit; love, joy, kindness, gentleness, patience, peace, faithfulness, goodness and self control. (Gal 5:22-23) But here in Romans 1 we are given the fruit of a life that has chosen cursing and death. "They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy."
If you had a choice which would you choose? It is not too late, the Mayans are wrong. You can still choose life.
